As autumn gives way to winter, House of Caradog has a varied programme of events and seasonal experiences planned across its Abergavenny businesses. There are talks, live music, film, creative workshops and distinctive festive occasions to look forward to, alongside the food and hospitality the group is known for.
We have picked out some of the most distinctive dates from the current programme below. Dates, availability and booking arrangements can change, so follow the links for the latest information before making plans.
Talks, music and performance
The programme begins with a strong run of cultural events. On Thursday 29 October, Keith Brymer Jones and Professor Angela V John both appear in Abergavenny. The Beyond Borders Quartet follows on Friday 30 October.
November brings more opportunities to spend an evening with music, ideas and performance, including The Cabinet of Dr Caligari with a live score and An Evening with Jodi Picoult on Wednesday 4 November, followed by Tobias Robertson live on Saturday 14 November and Jim Ramsey live on Saturday 21 November.
Creative workshops
For something hands-on, the autumn programme includes Mending Knit with Celia Pym on Friday 13 November and a collagraph printmaking workshop with Nichola Goff on Wednesday 25 November. The festive programme also includes wreath-making workshops at The Abergavenny Hotel on Tuesday 1, Thursday 3 and Sunday 6 December.
Festive dates for the diary
One of the most unusual ways to begin the Christmas season is with Santa’s horse-drawn sleigh rides, taking place on Sundays 6, 13 and 20 December. The pre-booked rides travel through the streets of Abergavenny, with a glass of fizz for grown-ups and hot chocolate for children.
The Abergavenny Festive Road Run returns on Saturday 19 December, bringing a colourful procession of decorated vehicles through the town. Christmas Eve lunch and carols, Boxing Day at The Angel, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day complete the main calendar highlights.
Seasonal experiences running throughout the festive period
Some of House of Caradog’s festive offerings are designed to run across a longer period rather than as one-off events. The official festive programme currently includes:
- Take the Angel Home, from Thursday 26 November.
- Goose Feast at The Walnut Tree, from Wednesday 25 November.
- Après-Ski Bar, from Tuesday 1 December.
- Festive High Tea, from Thursday 26 November.
- Festive dining in the Oak Room and Foxhunter Bar, from Friday 27 November.
- Lunchtime Exclusive Dining, from Friday 27 November.

Make a day of Abergavenny
These events offer a good reason to spend time in Abergavenny beyond the event itself, whether that means browsing independent shops, visiting the market, exploring the castle or making a weekend of it.
