9 October 2025, Llangors Community Centre
The Llyn Syfaddan History Group is marking a special year for Llangors Lake with a programme of events, including a talk on Joseph Harris, Scientist, Artisan and Assay Master. The event takes place at Llangors Community Centre on Thursday 9 October at 7.30pm, with guest speaker Martin Griffiths, Director of the Brecon Beacons Observatory and Astronomer with Dark Sky Wales.
The evening will also host the group’s short Annual General Meeting, followed by Griffiths’ illustrated talk exploring the remarkable life of Joseph Harris, elder brother of Howell Harris from Trefeca. Despite living an accomplished and well-travelled life, Harris remains little known locally — this event shines a light on his contribution to science and society.
Doors open at 7pm, when membership renewals will be taken at £7 for individuals and £10 for families. Attendees will also be able to purchase greetings cards, the newly published “Llangors Lake – Past and Present” booklet by Alison Noble and Elaine Starling, and a limited edition tea towel created to commemorate the centenary of the discovery of the Llangors Log Boat in 1925.Llangors Log Boat in 1925.
