Visitor accommodation registration begins across Wales on 1 October 2026, with the first registration phase ending on 31 March 2027.

The new legal requirement applies to visitor accommodation providers across Wales, whether or not their local council introduces a visitor levy. Registration is free and will be managed by the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA).

Who will need to register?

Providers must register if they take bookings for overnight visitor stays in Wales, are responsible for the accommodation and accept bookings of 31 nights or fewer.

The requirement covers businesses of every size, including hotels, guesthouses, self-catering accommodation, campsites, glamping businesses, static caravans, hostels, bunkhouses and people occasionally offering their main home or a spare room.

Providers will need to sign in using GOV.UK One Login, which can be created before registration begins.

The registration process will ask for contact and business information, together with details about each accommodation premises. These include the accommodation type, usual opening period, number of bookable units and maximum occupancy.
