Visitor accommodation registration begins across Wales on 1 October 2026. The first registration phase runs until 31 March 2027.
Registration is free and is managed by the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA). It applies whether or not your local council introduces a visitor levy.
Who needs to register?
You must register if all of the following apply:
- you take bookings for overnight stays in visitor accommodation in Wales;
- you are responsible for the accommodation, for example as its owner or tenant; and
- any bookings you accept are for 31 nights or fewer.
The requirement covers accommodation offered for one night, seasonally or throughout the year. This includes self-catering properties, hotels, bed and breakfasts, guesthouses, campsites, glamping, static caravans, hostels, bunkhouses, main homes and spare rooms.
Agents and management companies are not responsible for registering, although they can complete registration on a provider’s behalf.
What to do now
1. Create your GOV.UK One Login
You will need to sign in through GOV.UK One Login when you register. You can create this before registration begins.
2. Gather the information you will need
Prepare:
- contact details: name, address, telephone number, email address and date of birth;
- business details: company or charity number and trading name, where applicable; and
- accommodation details: accommodation types, the name and address of each premises, usual opening period, number of bookable units and maximum occupancy.
If you operate more than one premises
If the same person or organisation is responsible for each premises, include them all in one registration. If different people or organisations are responsible, separate registrations will be needed.
After registering
You will receive a unique registration number. You must update your registration information within 30 days if anything changes, including contact or accommodation details, selling the accommodation or no longer accepting overnight bookings.
