On Sunday 4 July 2027, Stage 3 will travel from Welshpool to Cardiff, bringing the world’s greatest cycling race through Powys and into some of Wales’ most spectacular landscapes.

Within our destination, riders will tackle two named climbs: the Côte de Epynt and the Côte de Bannau.

A moment for cycling and tourism

The arrival of the Tour de France will put our landscapes, communities and cycling culture in front of a global audience. It is a major sporting moment, but it is also an opportunity to encourage people to discover the destination before, during and long after race day.

Visitors will be looking for places to stay, eat, explore and enjoy the atmosphere around the route. The opportunity is there for accommodation providers, cafés, restaurants, attractions, activity businesses and local shops to showcase the welcome that makes this part of Wales such a special place to visit.

For cycling visitors, practical details can make all the difference: secure bike storage, an early breakfast, a place to refill bottles, useful route advice, a welcoming café stop or help with local rides. These small touches can turn a visit linked to the Tour into a longer stay — and a return visit in the future.

The opportunity continues beyond July 2027

The Tour de France will bring attention to routes and climbs that cyclists already know and love, while introducing them to many more people. Bannau Brycheiniog is well placed to welcome road cyclists, families, mountain bikers and visitors who simply want to experience the landscape at a gentler pace.

July 2027 promises to be a significant moment for Powys and Bannau Brycheiniog. With the Côte de Epynt and Côte de Bannau now part of the official route, the countdown is well and truly underway.

Powys County Council is sharing updates as preparations continue. Read the official information and follow the countdown here:
