Tourist Guide training suitable for Single Site and Walking Tourist Guides

What does the course do? Completing this course creates Guides qualified to deliver tours of Brecon town centre that can include a guided visit around Brecon Cathedral and a guided walk around the town centre. As well as equipping Guides with skills and knowledge to lead safe, entertaining, informative tours, the course creates a body of knowledge (your stories) for Guides to deliver to visitors, all to globally recognised Guiding Standards.

Where does the training happen? We deliver the training in Brecon, with time spent outdoors on location, and indoors.

Who delivers the training? Your trainers will be members of Wales Official Tourist Guides Association (WOTGA) who have been trained to deliver globally recognised quality standards (BSI EN 15565).

What will I learn? You will learn the recognised skills of Guides throughout the world. You will research, write and learn about Brecon, sharing this with others in your group. You will practise your Guiding skills and storytelling.  A full syllabus will be available.

How long does it take? The whole programme is delivered over 12 day-long sessions on a one day a week basis. There are assessment sessions included in this.  You will be expected to complete personal study and preparation between course sessions . The course will start on Wednesday 11 September 2024.

Will I get a certificate and badge? You will receive a White Badge and a certificate from Wales Official Tourist Guides Association upon successful completion of the course. 

What does it cost? The course fee is £100.00

What next? After your course, you may get the Guiding bug! There are Green Badge (Regional) courses and then the Blue Badge (All Wales) course. Your White Badge gives you certain exemptions.  You will qualify to be a WOTGA member and be able to earn as a freelance qualified Guide. You will be recognised by Visit Wales (Welsh Government) and the European Federation of Tourist Guide Associations.
