A growing guided walking business in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) has marked four successful years with a relaunch event celebrating collaboration, wellbeing and the power of exploring landscapes on foot.

Sarah Price Hiking welcomed 55 guests to Llangasty Village Hall overlooking Llangorse Lake, bringing together walkers, tourism partners and local businesses for a day combining outdoor exploration with community connection.

Guests began with a three-mile circular guided walk following an ancient Roman road above Llangasty, climbing to an Iron Age hillfort with panoramic views across the Brecon Beacons and towards the Black Mountains — landscapes that continue to inspire both visitors and local outdoor enterprises.

Julie Bell, Executive Director of Brecon Beacons Tourism, supported the walk as back-marker and photographer.

Speaking after the event, Julie said:

“Events like this highlight the real value of collaboration within our tourism community. Bringing people together outdoors creates space to reflect, share ideas and gain perspective — something the natural environment of Bannau Brycheiniog offers in a uniquely powerful way.

Open landscapes encourage conversation, wellbeing and connection, benefiting both individuals and the partnerships that help our visitor economy thrive.”

Following the walk, guests returned to the village hall for refreshments and a preview of the newly redesigned Sarah Price Hiking website, marking the next stage of growth for the business.

Originally established in Hay-on-Wye, Sarah Price Hiking now delivers guided walks, women-focused outdoor experiences and wellbeing-led events across Herefordshire and the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, with around half of activity delivered through partnerships with charities, tourism organisations and hospitality providers.

Steam Trains and Scenic Trails: Walking with the Brecon Mountain Railway

One of the most popular collaborations now forming part of Sarah’s programme runs throughout the Brecon Mountain Railway season, combining heritage travel with guided walking experiences.

Working alongside the railway team, Sarah leads a series of Train Ride and Guided Walk experiences, allowing visitors to travel deep into the national park by historic steam train before setting out on foot to explore landscapes rarely experienced from the road network.

The day begins at Pant Station, where walkers board a heritage steam locomotive for a scenic journey through the Taf Fechan Valley. After arriving along the line, participants join a professionally guided walk designed to showcase waterfalls, reservoirs, upland views and quieter corners of the national park.

The experience blends slow travel, local knowledge and outdoor discovery — offering visitors the joy of both riding a traditional steam train and walking through some of Wales’ most dramatic scenery.

A Growing Role for Walking Experiences in the Visitor Economy

Experiences such as guided walks linked with heritage attractions reflect a wider shift within tourism towards slower, more meaningful travel.

By combining outdoor activity, local storytelling and sustainable access to landscapes, collaborations between activity providers and attractions help visitors stay longer, explore responsibly and discover lesser-known areas of Bannau Brycheiniog.

Sarah Price said:

“Four years in, this relaunch feels like a natural evolution — celebrating the partnerships and community that have shaped Sarah Price Hiking. I’m excited for the next chapter, creating more opportunities for people to connect with the landscape and each other.”
