Experience the Royal Welsh Spring Festival This May

This May, the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd comes alive with the sights, sounds and flavours of the countryside. The Royal Welsh Spring Festival, now known as the Smallholding and Countryside Festival, takes place on 18–19 May 2025, celebrating rural life with two packed days of displays, activities and family fun. Whether you are a smallholder, a countryside enthusiast or simply looking for a great day out, it is an event full of inspiration and entertainment.

What to Expect at the Festival

The Spring Festival offers a vibrant showcase of rural skills, smallholding expertise and countryside traditions, with something for all ages to enjoy.
Highlights include:

  • Over 50 activities across the showground, from camel racing and scurry dog displays to axe-chopping competitions and rare breed animal showcases.

  • Hands-on workshops, including traditional skills like rope making, butter churning and fabric printing. Meet the crafters, makers and farmers who bring rural traditions to life.

  • Family-friendly fun such as petting alpacas, driving mini Land Rovers, puppet shows at Panic Circus and story time sessions in Glamorgan Hall.

  • Delicious food and local flavours at the Gwledd | Feast Food Village, offering live Welsh music, street food and artisan produce. Cheese-making demonstrations and goat milk soap stands are not to be missed.

  • Equestrian shows and animal displays, from elegant Welsh Section horses and scurry driving ponies to the "Have a Go" sheep stock judging on Saturday.

  • Evening entertainment, with live music and a friendly festival atmosphere in the Montgomery Pavilion from 7pm each evening.

It is a festival designed for memory-making — muddy boots, big smiles and all.
