Cynefin, the new Welsh Sheep Village, made its Royal Welsh Show debut at Llanelwedd in July 2026, bringing together the breeds, people, food, wool, skills and innovation connected with sheep farming in Wales.
Created by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society and the National Sheep Association, the village was officially opened on the first day of the Show. Its programme combined breed and fleece displays with education, demonstrations, animal-health and breeding expertise, rural-crime discussions, conservation, food and products made from wool and sheep's milk.
Brecknock in the spotlight
With Brecknock as the 2026 feature county, Cynefin showcased native breeds including the Beulah Speckled Face, Brecknock Hill Cheviot, Epynt Hardy Speckled Face and Talybont Welsh Mountain. The village's name — the Welsh word for habitat or a place of belonging — reflected the connection between land, livestock and rural communities.
A new part of the Show
The Society's closing report confirmed Cynefin as one of the successful new attractions at the 2026 Show. The project offered farmers a place to share good practice while helping visitors understand how sheep farming continues to shape the Welsh landscape, rural economy and heritage.
