Visitors heading to Hay-on-Wye for the busy late May bank holiday weekend can expect more than books and browsing this year, as Fair on the Square returns with three days of free live music, street food, local stalls and festival atmosphere in the heart of town.
Running from Saturday 24 to Monday 26 May on Memorial Square, the event adds another layer to an already lively weekend across the wider Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, with venues, pubs, festivals and community spaces across the region hosting live music and events throughout the season.
The free street party will feature performances from a wide mix of local and regional artists, alongside craft stalls, a flea market, food traders and drinks from local independent businesses. Visitors can expect everything from shanty songs and blues to folk, jazz-inspired sets and acoustic performances throughout the weekend.
Saturday’s line-up includes performances from Hay Shantymen, Blue Moon, Bella Collins and Wychbury, while Sunday brings Disque Bleu, Tyler Massey Quartet and Jake & Jess to the square. Monday rounds off the weekend with sets from Alex Seel & Jon Sanders, Little Rumba and Art Blank Combo.
Food and drink traders across the weekend include Lucky 7 Beer Co, Pomme Pomme Foods and Pierogi Hereford, helping create a relaxed festival feel in the centre of Hay-on-Wye.
The event also ties in with the wider atmosphere surrounding the annual Hay Festival period, encouraging visitors to spend more time exploring the town, local businesses and the surrounding landscapes of Bannau Brycheiniog.
