The Mid Wales Rhythm & Blues Club (MWR&BC), in partnership with Brecon Folk Club, opens its 2026 programme with a very special performance from Raphael Callaghan, bringing his distinctive blend of blues and gospel to Brecon for the first time.

A veteran of more than 50 years on the UK blues scene, Callaghan’s journey began in 1960s Liverpool and has seen him perform alongside names such as Alexis Korner, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Bibb and Jessie Mae Hemphill. Known for his expressive vocals, melodic slide guitar and harmonica, he brings a deep and emotive style shaped by six decades of musical exploration.

His most recent album, Always in Arrears, has been described by Blues in Britain as “his best yet,” showcasing his contemporary songwriting rooted in traditional blues.
