Bwlch With Altitude is a popular annual walking challenge held in Llangorse and Bwlch since 2009.
Teams navigate a marked route using a provided map, completing a series of tasks along the way. These tasks include answering quiz questions, collecting digital checkpoints, taking photos, and saying hello to marshals stationed along the route!
The route takes participants over the peaks (hence the “altitude”!) between Bwlch and Llangorse, offering stunning views of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains. The hills range in height from 393 to 508 meters, with the starting point in Bwlch at 200 meters and the lowest point at Llangorse Lake, at 160 meters.
At registration, teams receive maps, quiz sheets, and electronic wristbands to track their progress. A large screen at the HQ in Bwlch Village Hall displays each team's progress throughout the event.
Once the course is completed, teams return to Bwlch Village Hall to return their wristbands, check out the results on the screen, and collect their Bwlch With Altitude certificates showing their recorded time. There will also be prizes!
The winning team is the one that visits the most checkpoints and answers the most quiz questions correctly. In the event of a tie, the fastest time is the deciding factor. Additional prizes are awarded in categories such as best team name, best photograph, and spirit of the competition.
