The Big Blacks Mountain Challenge (BBMC) returns in May 2026, marking the 41st year of this much-loved endurance event set in the Black Mountains.
Organised by Longtown Mountain Rescue Team, the BBMC is a demanding mountain challenge that attracts experienced walkers and runners from across Wales and the UK, while also raising vital funds for local mountain rescue services.
Taking place across the rugged landscapes of the Black Mountains, the challenge offers a true test of navigation, stamina and teamwork, with participants supported by a strong volunteer and safety network throughout the day.
Events like the BBMC play an important role in the wider visitor economy of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, bringing people into the area in spring and showcasing the region’s outstanding upland landscapes, outdoor heritage and community spirit.
Whether you are taking part, supporting friends and family, or planning a visit around the event weekend, the BBMC is a clear highlight in the 2026 outdoor events calendar.
