Discover the Creative Heart of Carmarthenshire: Tywi Valley Open Studios 2025

By j.bell on 17/07/2025

Each summer, the Tywi Valley quietly transforms into one of Wales’ most vibrant arts destinations. From 26 July to 3 August 2025, the Tywi Valley Open Studios event invites visitors to explore the studios and workspaces of over 30 local artists, makers and creatives – all within a 15-mile radius of Llandeilo.

This isn’t your typical gallery crawl. It’s an immersive, behind-the-scenes arts trail that offers rare insight into how art is made – from the first sketch or coil of clay to the final finished piece. Over nine inspiring days, you can step inside working studios, watch live demonstrations, and meet the artists face-to-face. Whether you’re curious about painting, textiles, ceramics, woodwork, printmaking or sculpture, the trail offers something for every art lover.

What makes the Tywi Valley Open Studios so special?

It’s the opportunity to connect with the people and the place behind the artwork. Many of the studios are nestled in tucked-away barns, garden outbuildings or riverside homes, and each one reflects the spirit of the valley itself – full of creativity, resourcefulness and quiet beauty. You’ll meet artists who are passionate about their materials, their landscapes and their processes, and many are more than happy to talk about their techniques, inspiration and daily working life.

Some studios will also be running hands-on taster sessions or informal workshops, which means you can roll up your sleeves and have a go yourself – from pottery throwing to felting, willow weaving to sketching.

For families, the trail is a refreshing and low-cost day out that sparks curiosity and creativity in children and adults alike. For collectors, it’s a chance to find one-of-a-kind pieces and buy directly from the maker. For locals and visitors, it’s simply a joyful celebration of talent rooted in the Carmarthenshire landscape.

Planning your visit

The organisers have produced a handy trail map and brochure – available online or at local outlets – which includes colour-coded routes to help you plan your day. Each studio has its own profile and opening times listed, and while most are open daily during the event, some may have slight variations, so it’s worth double-checking before you set off.

Follow along on social media for highlights and updates in the run-up to and throughout the event. You’ll also find details of which artists are offering demonstrations or workshops.

Whether you’re a local looking to explore what’s on your doorstep or a visitor keen to experience Welsh creativity at its finest, Tywi Valley Open Studios is an unmissable event that puts people, place and process at its heart.
