Outdoor enthusiasts are gearing up for the Cardiff Three Peaks Challenge, set to take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025. More than just a test of stamina and spirit, the event raises vital funds for the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team (CBMRT), a volunteer-run emergency service that provides life-saving support across South Wales.

Participants will take on three of Cardiff’s most iconic surrounding peaks - The Garth, Craig yr Allt, and Caerphilly Mountain - in a single day, covering approximately 21 kilometres with a total ascent of 750 metres.

Starting and finishing in Tongwynlais, the circular route offers more than just a physical challenge. Hikers will traverse open fells, forested valleys, and farmland, soaking up sweeping views and passing landmarks such as Castell Coch and the famous Garth Mountain – the inspiration for the Hugh Grant film, “The Englishman who went up a hill and came down a mountain”.
Organised to support the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team (CBMRT), the challenge plays a crucial role in funding the team’s life-saving operations across South Wales. CBMRT is entirely volunteer-run and relies solely on donations to assist those in distress in mountainous and remote areas. The team are called out via the 999 service and respond to approximately 3 emergency calls a week.
