Walkers and outdoor enthusiasts are invited to take on the Bwlch With Altitude Challenge on Saturday 6 June 2026, a popular annual team walking event set between Bwlch and Llangorse in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.
Now established as a favourite local challenge since 2009, the event combines navigation, teamwork and a sense of adventure as participants follow a marked route across the hills while completing quizzes, collecting digital checkpoints and enjoying some of the finest views in the National Park.
Unlike a traditional organised walk, Bwlch With Altitude is self-led, giving teams the chance to test their navigation skills using maps provided on the day. Along the route, participants will:
The course takes in several peaks ranging from 393 to 508 metres, with ever-changing views of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains providing plenty of motivation along the way.
The event starts and finishes at Bwlch Village Hall, which will act as the event headquarters throughout the day.
Registration opens from 9:00am, with a briefing at 10:00am, after which teams can set off at their own pace. Most teams complete the challenge in between four and seven and a half hours.
Participants will receive:
At the end of the challenge, teams return to the village hall to see results displayed and celebrate achievements, with prizes awarded for categories such as fastest teams, best team name, best photograph and spirit of the event.
Food and refreshments will be available at Bwlch Village Hall thanks to support from the village hall committee and Bwlch & Cathedine WI. Walkers can also find refreshments available to purchase at venues along the route, including water refill points supported by Siop Llangors.
Parking in the village is limited, with organisers recommending parking at the Buckland Hill turning area and allowing time to walk to registration.
