Ysgubor Bach and Coed Owen are two self-catering bunkhouses on the Rees family's working hill farm at Cwmtaff, near Nant Ddu and Merthyr Tydfil. Groups can choose a smaller converted barn for up to 10 or a larger bunkhouse for up to 26, with direct access from the farm towards the Bannau Brycheiniog mountains.
Ysgubor Bach has three bedrooms: a ground-floor twin with en-suite facilities, a first-floor twin and a six-bed room sharing the family bathroom. A fitted kitchen and spacious sitting and dining room with a log burner make it a practical base for families, friends and smaller groups. Coed Owen has five bedrooms, including ground-floor beds, a twin room and an accessible shower and WC. The farm has ample car and bus parking, secure lock-up space for bikes and canoes, outdoor space and a barbecue area. Hen, stag and family gatherings are welcomed. Facilities differ between the two buildings, so groups relying on a particular bedroom, bathroom or access arrangement should discuss it with the relevant host before booking.
Walkers can reach the mountain directly from the property, with Pen y Fan approached on foot by a longer route. BikePark Wales, the Taff Trail, Waterfall Country, Penderyn and Brecon are within reach, while the T4 bus stops close to the farm.
