The Red Lion Inn is a historic country pub and restaurant in Penderyn, on the southern edge of Bannau Brycheiniog. The former drovers' inn combines flagstone floors, log fires and traditional cask ales and ciders with a modern seasonal Welsh food offer.
The kitchen serves modern pub dishes shaped around locally sourced Welsh ingredients. Current lunch, dinner, Sunday-roast and event-night arrangements are kept on the official website, where visitors can also make a table reservation. Guests with allergies or other dietary requirements should telephone before booking.
Visitors can choose between the traditional bar, lounge, restaurant and outdoor seating areas. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the bar and lounge but not the restaurant. Children over six are welcome for lunch and dinner; younger children are welcome only up to the published time, and the inn cannot accommodate prams, pushchairs or highchairs because of limited space.
The Red Lion also operates a one-bedroom self-catering cottage around 200 yards from the pub. The cottage has one double bedroom, a walk-in shower room, kitchen, dining and sitting rooms, Wi-Fi, a wood-burning fire and a garden with furniture. It sleeps two and does not accept pets.
Walking routes begin close to the cottage, with Sgwd yr Eira, Penderyn Distillery and the wider southern National Park within reach. Cottage availability and booking, table reservations, opening hours and changing menus should all be checked through the current official site.
