Serydda delivers guided stargazing, starbathing and night-photography experiences beneath some of Wales’ darkest skies.
Led by Dafydd Wyn Morgan, an experienced night-sky photographer and guide, Serydda is based in Tregaron and closely associated with the Cambrian Mountains. Dafydd helped create the Cambrian Mountains Astro Trail and works with visitors, photographers and tourism businesses across Wales.
Experiences are suitable for complete beginners as well as people wishing to develop their knowledge or photography skills. Depending on the session and conditions, participants may learn to recognise constellations, planets and deep-sky objects, hear Welsh myths and legends connected with the night sky or receive practical guidance on photographing stars and night landscapes.
No previous astronomy or photography experience is required.
Serydda’s 60-minute starbathing sessions offer an accessible introduction to the night sky. Sessions can be arranged at participating visitor accommodation, allowing guests to experience the stars without travelling elsewhere after dark.
Longer astrophotography workshops cover camera settings, composition, focusing in darkness, planning a night shoot and photographing subjects such as the Milky Way, constellations and low-light landscapes. Private tuition and small-group workshops are available by arrangement.
Creative light-painting sessions use long-exposure photography and handheld lights to produce colourful night-time images. Light painting can also provide an alternative activity when cloud prevents conventional stargazing.
Serydda additionally works with guesthouses, hotels, campsites and holiday lets through its astro-tourism service. Packages can include advice, night photography, star-trail images, time-lapse content and guidance on appealing to visitors interested in dark skies.
All outdoor sessions depend upon weather, visibility and local conditions. Locations and arrangements are agreed when booking, and participants should arrive with warm clothing and suitable footwear.
