Penpont is a historic family-run estate on the River Usk near Brecon, combining a characterful group stay, informal riverside camping, gardens, a farm shop, weddings, retreats, workshops and regenerative farming. It offers visitors a distinctive place to stay, gather and reconnect with the landscape of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.
The seventeenth-century Courtyard Wing has six bedrooms, generous shared living spaces and an open-plan kitchen and dining room. Penpont uses different bed arrangements for family stays and hosted retreats, so groups should check the current capacity for their particular booking. Wi-Fi covers the living areas but not every bedroom, and dogs are accepted only by prior discussion because the estate is also a working farm and conservation site.
The Old Rose Garden and riverside campsite has informal, unmarked pitches rather than fixed rows. Numbers are limited to 35 people, with space primarily for tents and no more than two small campervans; there are no electric hook-ups or chemical-toilet disposal facilities. Hot showers, toilets, fire pits and nearby parking support a simple, low-impact stay.
The Grade II-listed Stables can seat up to 80 guests and is licensed for wedding ceremonies inside or outdoors in the gardens. Its dining hall, hayloft, smaller workshop and meeting rooms, professional kitchen, pub and courtyard can be combined for weddings, conferences, creative workshops and wellbeing retreats. The larger upstairs room accommodates up to 16 people for yoga practice, while the smaller room seats around 30 in theatre style.
The wood-fired riverside sauna seats up to eight and can be booked for private or communal sessions, with the River Usk used as a cold plunge. Visitors can also explore gardens, woodland paths and the Greenman maze, visit the farm shop and learn about Penpont's nature recovery and regenerative-farming work. River use is at visitors' own risk and current conditions and guidance should always be checked.
