Stay together, eat together and head outdoors: Glyntawe combines practical group accommodation with tailored adventures in the upper Swansea Valley.
Glyntawe Outdoor Centre provides flexible group accommodation and tailored outdoor activities in the small village of Glyntawe, close to Pen-y-cae and Dan-yr-Ogof, the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. Its upper Swansea Valley setting makes it a practical base for exploring the waterfalls, caves, hills and outdoor landscapes of this part of Bannau Brycheiniog.
The centre sleeps up to 35 and can be booked for self-catered, catered or activity-led stays. Bedrooms range from practical bunk rooms to private rooms and three en-suite bedrooms. Shared facilities include a lounge, dining room, free fibre Wi-Fi and a fully equipped commercial kitchen. Groups can self-cater or arrange breakfast, half-board, full-board, packed lunches and other meals in advance, with dietary requirements discussed before arrival.
A secure, purpose-built drying room is available for the current additional charge and can hold wet outdoor clothing, bicycles, canoes and kayaks. Nine parking spaces are normally available, with larger parking arrangements discussed in advance.
Qualified-instructor programmes can include bushcraft, caving, canoeing, gorge walking, kayaking, mountain biking, mountain walking and navigation, paddleboarding and rock climbing. School residentials can combine exclusive-use accommodation, full-board catering, outdoor learning and adventurous activities, while family, club and corporate programmes are arranged directly with the centre.
Glyntawe is in the upper Swansea Valley and is served by the T6 bus route. Visitors travelling by public transport should check the current timetable and confirm the most suitable stop and arrival arrangements with the centre before setting out.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome only by prior arrangement and for the current nightly fee. They must not be left unattended, are kept under control and cannot enter the kitchen. The ground floor has five wet rooms including one accessible bathroom, but visitors with particular access requirements should confirm the complete arrival, circulation, sleeping and activity arrangements with the centre before booking.
Bedding is included, but guests need to bring their own towels.
