Medieval architecture, stained glass, worship and live music come together within the cathedral and its peaceful close.
Brecon Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of St John the Evangelist, is a living place of worship and a heritage landmark with more than 900 years of history. It stands within peaceful grounds a short walk from Brecon town centre.
Visitors can explore the medieval architecture, stained glass, chapels and cathedral close, attend a service or enjoy a quiet pause. Welcomers are available and guided visits can be arranged through the cathedral office. The cathedral normally opens daily, while service, concert and event arrangements should be checked before a special journey.
Dogs are welcome throughout the cathedral and close under the current visitor policy. The Pilgrim's Café is normally open daily for breakfast, lunch and refreshments, with its current hours published by the cathedral.
The southwest entrance has lift access and the main visitor areas are otherwise step-free, although the north door involves steps. Accessible parking spaces, coach spaces and pay-and-display visitor parking are available in the close, and toilets are provided in the cathedral and café. Visitors with particular requirements should read the current access information or contact the cathedral before travelling.
