Brecon Beacons Tourism is pleased to announce the appointment of Carl Shaw as our new Chairperson — a significant moment as we move into our 20th anniversary year and look ahead to the next stage of supporting, representing, and championing tourism businesses across Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons).
Many members will already know Carl through his work as General Manager at Dan yr Ogof National Showcaves Centre for Wales, one of the region’s leading attractions. His wider sector involvement through WAVA (the Wales Association of Visitor Attractions) gives him a strong national perspective on the challenges and opportunities shaping the Welsh visitor economy. Carl also has deep community roots in Abercraf, where he lives with his family and volunteers locally. This grounded approach aligns closely with the values and direction of our association.
Speaking on his appointment, Carl said:
“I’m honoured to have been elected as Chairperson of Brecon Beacons Tourism. Thank you to everyone for your trust and support. This is a milestone year as we celebrate 20 years as a dedicated tourism group. I’m excited to work with our members, partners, and the wider community to support sustainable growth and champion our region. Together, we can build an even brighter future for tourism in the Brecon Beacons.”
Our Director, Julie Bell, added:
“Carl and I already work closely across a number of areas, and I’m very much looking forward to expanding our outreach with his leadership as Chair. This is an important year for us, and having someone with Carl’s grounding in the sector helps us keep our businesses in the spotlight, champion our destination, and strengthen the visitor economy across Bannau Brycheiniog.”
As we welcome Carl into the role, we also take this moment to thank Colin Evans of Cantref Adventure Farm, our outgoing Chair, for his tireless work and steady guidance over the years. Colin led BBT through the unprecedented challenges of the Covid era and helped steer the organisation into our current phase of renewal and destination-focused delivery. His contribution has been invaluable and we look forward to continuing to work with him as a valued member.
Carl’s appointment marks the start of an important year for Brecon Beacons Tourism. With a refreshed governance model, strengthened partnership work with Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority, and the upcoming launch of our updated membership structure for 2026, this is a moment of confidence and shared purpose. We look forward to working closely with members and partners as we move into our anniversary year with clarity, ambition and a strong collective voice.
