Carl Shaw brings experienced leadership, calm decision-making and a strong sense of community to his role as Chair of Brecon Beacons Tourism. As Manager of the National Showcaves Centre for Wales, one of Wales’ leading visitor attractions, Carl oversees day-to-day operations, team management and the delivery of high-quality visitor experiences in a complex, high-footfall environment. His background gives him a practical understanding of the challenges facing tourism businesses across the region.
Carl’s professional approach is grounded in collaboration. He works closely with partners across the National Park, regional organisations and the wider visitor economy to help strengthen the role of Brecon Beacons Tourism as a trusted voice for local businesses. As Chair, he plays an important part in shaping BBT’s governance, membership development and long-term direction — including the organisation’s growing focus on partnership working, sustainable tourism and forward-thinking destination management.
Alongside his tourism career, Carl is well known locally for his love of football. A UEFA A Licence holder, he dedicates much of his free time to coaching a local youth team, reflecting his commitment to supporting young people and contributing positively to his community. This blend of professional leadership and grassroots involvement brings a thoughtful, grounded perspective to his role on the board.
Carl summarises his motivation simply:
“This is a remarkable place, and it deserves a strong, connected tourism sector. My role is to help us build that together.”
His steady leadership, practical experience and community-minded approach make him an exceptional Chair and a valuable advocate for tourism across Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons).
