Calm and creative Christmas workshops with Beacons Pottery

Handmade ceramic Christmas wreath decorated with green leaves and red berries

Christmas can be a busy time of year, but it can also be a good moment to slow down and make something by hand. This winter, Beacons Pottery is offering a series of small, festive workshops near Brecon, where time with clay becomes a chance to switch off, explore your creativity and enjoy a supportive studio environment.

Jess Rayner’s studio is at Bryn Bolgoed, Libanus, looking towards Pen y Fan and around ten minutes from Brecon. The workshops are suitable for complete beginners as well as people with some experience, with a maximum of eight participants and plenty of individual guidance throughout.

Time to slow down and make

Working with clay is tactile, practical and absorbing. The simple rhythm of rolling, shaping, joining and decorating gives your attention somewhere calm to settle, helping you step away from screens, lists and the general rush of the season.

There is also the satisfaction of making something from scratch. Your finished piece will carry the marks of your hands and your own ideas, while the relaxed, small-group setting makes the workshops a sociable experience too. You can come with a friend or family member, or arrive on your own and enjoy making alongside other people in a welcoming environment.

Beacons Pottery describes its sessions as a way to quieten the mind while learning something new. The workshops are guided rather than prescriptive, so there is room to create something personal without needing to be an experienced maker.
