Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 August 2026

Looking for the perfect summer weekend in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park? The first weekend of August is shaping up to be one of Brecon’s biggest of the year, with two popular events taking place on consecutive days.

On Saturday 1 August, the Brecon County Show returns with a full programme celebrating rural life, local food, farming and family entertainment. Then, on Sunday 2 August, the Brecon Classic Car Show at Christ College welcomes enthusiasts from across the country while raising funds for Brecon Foodbank.

Together, they create the perfect excuse to slow down, stay a little longer and discover everything this historic market town has to offer.

Saturday: A Celebration of Rural Wales

The Brecon County Show is one of Mid Wales’ most established agricultural events, bringing together farming traditions, local produce and entertainment for all ages.

Visitors can expect:

  • Livestock competitions
  • Main ring attractions
  • Horse classes
  • Vintage tractors and machinery
  • Rural crafts and demonstrations
  • Local food and drink
  • Trade stands
  • Children’s entertainment

Whether you have a farming connection or simply enjoy a great family day out, the show offers a genuine taste of rural Wales.

Sunday: A Classic Finish to the Weekend

The weekend continues with the Brecon Classic Car Show, taking place at the beautiful grounds of Christ College between 10.00am and 4.00pm.

Hundreds of beautifully maintained classic, vintage and specialist vehicles will be on display, creating a relaxed atmosphere for enthusiasts and families alike.

As well as admiring the vehicles, visitors can enjoy refreshments, browse stalls and support Brecon Foodbank, with proceeds from the event helping an important local charity.

Make It a Weekend Break

With two major attractions taking place across one weekend, why rush home?

Brecon is the perfect base for exploring the wider National Park, and many visitors choose to extend their stay to experience everything the area has to offer.

Between the events you could:

  • Wander Brecon’s independent shops and galleries.
  • Enjoy lunch or dinner in one of the town’s cafés, pubs or restaurants.
  • Visit Brecon Cathedral.
  • Take a gentle walk beside the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal.
  • Explore the spectacular landscapes of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, all within easy reach of the town.

Whether you’re travelling as a couple, with friends or bringing the whole family, there’s more than enough to fill a memorable summer weekend.

Planning Your Visit

If you’re intending to visit both events, booking accommodation in advance is recommended, as the first weekend of August is expected to be particularly busy.

Local cafés, restaurants, attractions and independent retailers will all be welcoming visitors throughout the weekend, making it an excellent opportunity to experience the best of Brecon beyond the event venues themselves.

For local tourism businesses, it’s also a valuable opportunity to showcase everything the town and surrounding area have to offer. Updating opening hours, promoting seasonal specials and encouraging visitors to explore a little further can all help make the most of the increased footfall.
