For a few magical days each summer, something extraordinary appears on the Brecon skyline. The big top rises, anticipation builds and audiences step inside to discover a world where theatre, live music and contemporary circus combine to create an unforgettable experience.
From Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 July, Peregrine Circus returns to Brecon with its latest production, Belly of the Whale, bringing one of Wales' most distinctive touring companies back to the heart of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.
Known for blending contemporary circus, immersive theatre and original live music, Peregrine Circus has built a growing reputation for performances that are intimate in scale yet ambitious in imagination. Founded in North Wales, the company brings together international performers, musicians and visual artists to create productions that transport audiences far beyond the everyday.
Belly of the Whale is far from a traditional circus performance.
Inspired by myths of the sea and stories carried beneath the waves, the production invites audiences into an immersive world where music, movement and storytelling unfold beneath the canvas of the big top. It's a performance that appeals to adults and families alike, offering something thoughtful, imaginative and visually captivating.
As Peregrine Circus expands its tour across Wales, Brecon remains one of the select locations chosen to host this unique production, reinforcing the town's growing reputation as a place where visitors can enjoy exceptional cultural experiences alongside its spectacular landscapes.
Peregrine Circus joins an exciting programme of summer events taking place across the destination, adding another reason for visitors to spend longer exploring Brecon and the surrounding area.
Whether you're planning a weekend break or simply looking for a memorable evening out, combine a visit to the circus with Brecon's independent cafés, restaurants, shops and riverside walks before discovering more of what Bannau Brycheiniog has to offer.
Events like these not only create memorable visitor experiences but also support local businesses, strengthen the evening economy and showcase the breadth of cultural activity taking place across the region.
