Each year this event is an opportunity to highlight the value of local bus services, and the contribution which buses make to the economic, social, and overall wellbeing of communities they serve. Public perception of local bus services tends to be mixed. Good Day Out, Gurkha Cooking Experience-4th and 12th July
Join us for an authentic cooking experience with a difference! Spend an evening with a genuine ex-army Gurkha Chef who will teach you how to make a delicious fresh Gurkha Curry, then enjoy eating the tasty meal that has been freshly prepared in front of you.
Chef Ramu will demonstrate creating Gurkha curry with chicken and vegan options from scratch, along with various side dishes and tasty snacks which will be handed out as nibbles during the cookery process. The Fan Dance-7th and 8th July
The Fan Dance is a gruelling 24km non-navigational race over two sides of Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons. This infamous route has long been a part of SAS (Special Air Service) and SBS (Special Boat Service) selection. More info here.

Llandovery Motorbike Weekend-7th and 8th July
We are pleased to announce the third Llandovery Motorbike Weekend, it looks to be another great weekend event for bikers and families alike! Our range of events and supporters provide a variety of valuable bike and road safety sessions, arts and craft stalls, live music sessions on our ‘Ace’s Cafe’ stage and various ‘ride out’ routes. We are also pleased to announce a Saturday evening Curry, Pint and Celebrity Bike Tales evening at the Castle Hotel, with Gareth Jones who will deliver tales of his recent African adventure on his trusted Harley Davidson. Cwmdu and District Show-14th July
Founded in 1988 in the heart of the Black Mountains, Cwmdu Show is a local village show with fantastic support and a great atmosphere, all brought together with the help and enthusiasm from our local families. With children’s games and sports, vintage displays, dog shows, sheep classes, horse and pony qualifiers, its a family day out for all ages.
Cwmdu show is located on one of our local village farms by very kind permission of Chris & Liz Bowen and their family.
Mid Wales Dance Academy Annual Showcase at Theatr Brycheiniog-14th-15th July
A cast of over 250 students present “An A to Z of dance”. The performances include ballet, tap, street and modern dance styles. More here.
The Llandeilo Festival of Music-14th-21st July

The eighteenth annual music festival at Llandeilo seems certain to continue, and indeed enhance, the Festival’s well-earned reputation for attracting world-ranking artists to this small market-town in West Wales. Over the years it has earned both the respect and critical approval of music-lovers from all over the country, drawing enthusiastic audiences to the various Festival venues for concerts and recitals, all characterised by its Artistic Director’s imaginative programme planning. As in previous years there will be free daily Lunchtime concerts and the Schools Outreach Programme will involve local primary school pupils in the excitement of this vibrant annual event. More here.
Brecon Craft Fair at Brecon Market Hall-21st July
Brecon craft fair has been established for over 20 years and is based in the towns historic market hall. Each month up to 60 traditional independent craft workers and artists offer a wide range of high quality arts and crafts. This provides the opportunity to buy original and unique work directly from craft workers and artists. Held on the 3rd Saturday of every month from March to December.
Royal Welsh Agricultural Show-23rd-26th July
The pinnacle event in the British agricultural calendar, the Royal Welsh Show, will be held on 23 - 26 July 2018 at the showground in Llanelwedd.
Along with an exciting four-days of livestock competitions, with entries travelling from far and wide to compete, the show has something to interest everyone through its wide range of activities including forestry, horticulture, crafts, countryside sports, shopping, food and drink and a 12-hour programme each day of exciting entertainment, attractions and displays. Safety on the Hills-28th-29th July
Based at the visitor centre this two day course is a great starting point before heading out into the hills. It is ideal for those new to navigating with a map and compass or those
looking to refresh their skills. During the two days the course will cover many aspects of how to stay safe with a few classroom sessions mixed in with plenty of practical training based on the local hills. On Day one we'll look at the equipment we use, what to look for when purchasing new and how to look after it; how to make sense of a weather forecast and the decisions we need to make when planning a day out; understanding commonly used maps, scales, symbols and the shape of the hills we're walking over; Practical skills in route planning and basic navigation. On Day Two we'll head out on a day walk. With plenty of practical opportunities along the way we'll add to your skills and look at simple navigation strategies including using a compass. The aim at the end of the two days is to give you the confidence to plan your own routes, head out on your local hills and most importantly, return safely. The course is accredited by the NNAS and leads to its Bronze Navigation Award. It is run by Manzoku Climbing & Mountaineering, a local company with over 25 years’ experience of helping people safely enjoy the hills and mountains of the UK. £115.00 per person. Course needs a minimum of 2 participants to run. This will be confirmed one week before the course. More here.

Located in Llangynidr Village Hall, the monthly Farmers’ Market offers a great range of local produce. Open 10:00am – 1.00pm

MAURICE SELDEN: RALLY PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION AT THEATR BRYCHEINIOG-Throughout July
A 2 month photographic exhibition has opened at Theatr Brycheiniog celebrating the 45 year career of world renowned rally photographer Maurice Selden. Maurice covered a record-breaking 449 World Rally Championship rallies worldwide. The exhibition, which runs until the end of August, aims to capture the thrills, colour and atmosphere of this exciting sport. Find out more here.
