A walk with a difference - Home to Dragons, Damsel and Devils!

The diverse and colourful wildlife of the western shores of Llangorse Lake have been brought to life through the installation of a unique 6ft audio sculpture at Caeau Ty Mawr, Llangasty – the first of its kind in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

It’s very easy to walk through the wildflower meadows at Caeau Ty Mawr, Llangasty without realising that these are some of the few remaining flower-rich lowland meadows in Breconshire and are important for some rare species of wildlife.  This beautiful audio sculpture has enabled us to celebrate the plants and animals that live here, and together with the engaging audio has created an inspiring, informative and we hope memorable experience for visitors which we will be enjoyed for years to come.

Visiting the fields
You can visit Caeau Ty Mawr by taking a short (1.2km) stroll across open fields following a popular public footpath. The footpath crosses through Caeau Ty Mawr, allowing visitors to take in the sights and sounds of this wildlife-rich site. Please note there is no public access off the path. If you wish to visit the bird hide on the Southern Shore, continue your walk through Caeau Ty Mawr and into the fields beyond, a distance of approximately 750m.

From the hide you may glimpse some of the birds that visit the Lake and its fringes as well as discovering more about some of our seasonal visitors.

How to get there

There is plenty of parking at Llangorse Common, just follow the brown road signs to the lake from Llangorse village. Once you enter the common, pass the Caravan Park reception and shop on your left and then park in the carpark on your left. Check out the orientation map and way marking signs to ensure you set off on the right path.

The project was jointly funded by Natural Resources Wales and Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, and was designed to support the Llangasty - Caeau Ty Mawr management plan which balances the conservation of the site’s fragile wildlife with its enjoyment by visitors.
