The luxury country house hotel, located in the scenic Wye Valley at Llyswen, near Builth Wells, has been shortlisted for the Best Restaurant accolade in the 2014 Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence.

The winners will be announced at an awards dinner to be held at the May Fair Hotel, London on Monday, November 4.

Llangoed Hall is no stranger to the awards, having previously been judged the most excellent country house hotel in Great Britain and Ireland in 2007. It’s turning out to be a memorable year for hotel, the fortunes of which have been transformed in little over a year.

In addition to the Hotel of the Year for Wales 2014, the hotel won the Inspectors Choice 4 Red Stars, the AA’s supreme accolade, at the AA Hospitality Awards.

Head chef Nick Brodie was recruited from The Queensberry Hotel and Olive Tree restaurant in Bath, where he achieved three AA rosettes and won numerous other accolades for South West England within 18 months.

Describing his own cooking style as “mainly modern British with international influences”, he sources as many ingredients as possible in the hotel gardens and grounds, where he rears ducks, quail, chickens for their fresh eggs and also has a smokery.

“Llangoed Hall is a self-contained unit, so the more that I can create from the gardens and grounds the better,” he said. “I’m inspired by everything I see around me and the changing seasons.”
