Wales Biodiversity Week is an annual week of wildlife-themed events that takes place all over Wales.
Upcoming events in the Brecon Beacons National Park include:
- Llanthony Valley Talk & Wildlife Walk – 9th June – organised by Gwent Wildlife Trust
- Our Education Team continues to have a packed schedule working with schools to (amongst other things) help celebrate & nurture an interest in biodiversity. Activities include mini-beast hunts, woodland trails, mammal studies and river dipping for starters!
- Bracken bashing at Cae Eglwys Nature Reserve- Tuesday, 14 June 2016-Burn off some energy cutting down bracken to help benefit the wide range of wildflowers on this delightful meadow.
- Moth Night at Llangasty Meadows – 17th June – organised by Brecknock Wildlife Trust
- Getting involved with watching & recording wildlife – 18th June – organised by the Biodiversity Information Service for Powys and Brecon Beacons National Park (BIS) to celebrate BIS’ 15th Birthday.
Photo: Meadow brown butterfly – one of our commonest grassland butterflies which is on the wing from June – September. The caterpillars feed on a variety of grasses and can be found in gardens, parks, churchyards, which means the ‘mini meadows’ by the car park at HQ, the mountain centre and Craig y Nos are all good places to try and spot one.
