Things to do with your Family this Christmas

By j.bell on 21/12/2017

From meeting Santa or enjoying a family show at Theatr Brycheiniog, there are plenty of things to entertain the whole family this Christmas in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Theatr Brycheiniog

After the success of last year’s Dick Whittington Jermin Productions return with a brand new pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. A breath taking battle of the beanstalk unfolds amongst the hilarious script, beautiful costumes and stunning theatrical sets. With their classic blend of chart topping songs and comedy gags this is an un-missable Christmas treat for all the family. Book your tickets here.

Now, where can you take us kids to capture that special ‘magical’ Christmas experience that we will remember for the rest of the year?
Just 20 minutes from the M4, (junction 45), there is a Welsh mountain, with ancient caves, whose entrances are guarded by gigantic, but very friendly dinosaurs! Deep inside this mountain lies Wales’ only natural Christmas grotto… Fantastic!

Imagine the excitement as we set off to find Santa, and follow the twisting, turning cave passageways that eventually lead us down into Santa’s magical underground world. Underground lakes, waterfalls, vast colourful hanging cave formations have all been transformed by the truly stunning Christmas decorations put up by the ‘Cave Bears’. As dad is always saying “seeing is believing”!my day’s fun will just go on and on. The next amazing thing we can see is Cathedral Cave – its HUGE! Then we visit Bone Cave!

There is even an Iron Age Farm to see and a great Museum. Dan-yr-Ogof has one of the largest collections of life-sized dinosaur models in the world. That’s really cool! There will even be a tractor waiting to take us down to the Morgan Brothers’ farm for us to see all their farm animals, and of course their magnificent Shire Horses!

There’s even an undercover play area called ‘Barney Owls Playground’ to end my perfect day. Now that’s what I call a real “Dan Yr Ogof” Christmas experience!

Old Railway Line Garden Centre

Old Railway line has been turned into a Christmas wonderland with a grotto and even a chance to have breakfast with Santa! It's not too late to add a little sparkle to your festive display this year, with plenty of Christmas decorations to choose from! There is even live reindeer and donkeys to admire!

Santa's Grotto

Now in its 30th year and more popular than ever. All children and adults receive a present from Santa.  Sherry and Mince Pies are served to the adults.Travel by Steam Hauled Train from Pant Station to Santa’s Grotto where everyone will receive a present from Father Christmas.
