This year’s annual Geofest Family Activity Day takes place on Wednesday 30th March, 10am-4pm at Craig y nos Country Park in Cwm Tawe. Part of the annual Geopark Festival, celebrating the Fforest Fawr Geopark which covers the western half of the National Park, the day is free to all (there is a car park charge of £5 per car). This year children can brave the zipwire, canoe on the lake, have a go at orienteering, stone carving, arts and crafts and much more. Check out the Geopark half term guide here.
They have many different activities on-site; their popular Indoor Multi-Activities (suitable for ages 6 years and over) gives a taste of Rock Climbing, Bouldering, Rope Bridges, Zip Line, Caving and Abseiling!
Outdoors, they have recently added a new tree-top Junior Challenge Course with many challenging obstacles for 6 - 12 years olds. Or from 12 years why not tackle the the larger Outdoor Multi Level Challenge Course, or zip through the air from platform to platform on a tour of Sky Trek? Head out this half term and conquer Garn Goch hillfort in the Fforest Fawr Geopark that covers the west of our National Park. Garn Goch is one of the largest Iron Age forts in the whole of Wales and has two hillforts to explore; Y Gaer Fach and Y Gaer Fawr. The Wild Wednesday workshop on 30th May at 10.30 am offers a fun and creative workshop for children every Wednesday during the school 9holidays.
Suitable for children of all ages this workshop is always our most popular Wild Wednesday of the year! Dave and Sue from The Rainforest Roadshow will be joining us again with a range of their interesting insects and animals from across the world! There will also be fun craft activities including making racing spiders and honeycomb bugs.

The world-renowned Hay Festival takes place in the small Welsh Town of Hay-on-Wye on the edge of the Brecon Beacons each year. The festival runs from the 24th May until the 3rd June.

Travel by narrow gauge steam train through beautiful scenery in the Brecon Beacons National Park on one of the most popular routes in Wales. Dan Yr Ogof ShowCaves– has ten attractions all covered on the one entry ticket - there is plenty to see and do for all ages.
The 3 different caves Dan-yr-Ogof, Cathedral Cave and Bone Cave each offer a unique underground experience. In Dan-yr-Ogof you walk through the beautifully decorated passageways for just under 1 kilometre, or walk through the enormous passageways of Cathedral Cave, carved out millions of years ago, and at the end of this cave experience the excitement of walking behind the 40 feet high waterfalls that cascade around you in the ‘Dome of St Paul’s’, an atmospheric end to a truly wonderful cave.
On site they also have one of the world’s largest collections of life-sized dinosaur models, ranging from the ever popular Tyrannosaurus Rex and Brachiosaurs, to the lesser-known Tsintaosaurus. There are over 130 models here – can you find your favourite dinosaur?
The Shire Horse Centre offers the excitement of the 2 covered children’s play areas, the farmyard area, and make friends with the gentle giants – the Shire horses who are waiting to say hello. Include the Iron Age village, museum, and stone circles, and you have plenty to see and do for all ages, and for those who may want a break, there is a Coffee shop, and the Rock and Dinosaur shop to enjoy.
The 2018 Brecon and Radnorshire Urdd National Eisteddfod will be held on the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells from 28th May to 2 June 2018. It is one of Europe’s
largest youth touring festivals with over 15,000 children and young people competing in various competitions such as singing, dancing and performing. They are the elite few from around 40,000 competitors across Wales who have won their place following local and regional rounds held in the spring months leading up to the Eisteddfod. The 1,800 seater Pavilion is the home of the competitions and is very much the hub of the Eisteddfod. Surrounding the Pavilion, on the ‘Maes’, you will find hundreds of colourful stalls offering a range of activities for all the family – from biking, climbing and sport sessions to a fun fair, live bands and children’s shows with some well known TV characters.
