4. Tretower Court

A trip to Tretower Court and Tower and the wandering “white lady”…
Tretower Court is a majestically preserved 14th century manor house with a ruined castle tower nearby that dates back to medieval times.
It’s so soaked in history, a few people suspect it might be haunted.  So it was no surprise when the TV series “Most Haunted”filmed an episode there and discovered a few things.  According to the guides who were working that day, the presenters “made lots of noise and all came out feeling very sad!”.  We’re quite sure you’ll be feeling more amazed than sad when you visit this quite outstanding place.

The White Lady Ghost..
However maybe a visit on the scariest day of the year might stir-up a resident from the past.  It is believed that a ghost known as the “White Lady” can be spotted walking along the balcony and across the courtyard, she’ll then stop and stand staring out to Chepstow.  In the female quarter of the bed chambers some people have also said to have felt very cold and like there was a presence in the room.

It is believed the ghost does this as she is still waiting for her husband Roger Vaughan to come home to her.  The tragic history goes that Roger Vaughan was beheaded, after being captured by his rival Jasper Tudor during the War of the Roses.  Leaving the “lady in white” known as Lady Margaret, to live a lonely life alone and forever waiting in Tretower Court.
Tretower court is a really worthwhile place to visit and provides tours. So be sure to stop by to discover a place that has had a lot of influence to Wales and the Brecon Beacons.

The building has been restored to how it would have been when Henry Vaughan and family would have lived there. Why not go on their spooky Halloween trail? Find more information on Tretower Court here.
