The Easter holidays have arrived and we’ve got plenty for you and your family to do and enjoy, whatever the weather.

This Easter in Hay on Wye, just over the bridge from WANT TO CANOE? HQ the town is celebrating it's independence and welcomes #BookstagramHay back for a second year . . . you can join us on the river to escape the buzz of the celebrations for a while and enjoy some peace and tranquility! It also works the other way around too! Why not combine your adventures on the river with a leisurely stroll around the bookshops, markets and historic sights in our friendly and vibrant town. It’s only five minutes walk over the bridge to town so make a day of it or even stay over!

The Wye is by far one of the most beautiful rivers in the British Isles and one of the few you can navigate by canoe, without restriction, for well over 100 miles. want to canoe?

Go on a Guided Tour: This Easter paddle your local area with a fantastic guide to enthuse and inform you! Explore the secrets of the waterways from a whole new perspective. Whether you're an absolute beginner or an experienced paddler, our Guided Tours offer a great way to get out on the water during the fantastic Welsh spring-time. In 2016 the King of Hay, Richard Booth declared want to canoe? the Hay Navy and Aubrey Fry (owner) the Admiral! On selected days of the Independence Celebrations we will be running special 'Independence' Guided Tours . . . join the Admiral and his team to enjoy the splendour of the River Wye by canoe and find out exactly why this fantastic river was the birthplace of British Tourism and one of the King's motivations back in the late 1970s to transform Hay and the surrounding areas into an international tourist destination! Our caves and caverns have been quietly forming for thousands of years, underground and out of sight. Visitors from all over the world come to the southwest section of the Brecon Beacons National Park to explore these amazing spaces and feel the thrill of discovery. For some, it’s their first ever caving trip, while others have many years of experience.
1. Big Pit-Fully immerse yourself in Wales’ industrial past Big Pit should be on your itinerary. It’s near the Park boundary to the South and the the main attraction is the mine underground but don’t miss out the galleries on the hill – well worth a visit
2. Dolaucothi Gold Mines-The Gold mines will reopen for a brand new season on the 18th March. Its the only known Roman Gold Mine in the UK! Discover what life was like for Roman miners, who tunnels through the landscape with only the most basic of hand tools; or for the Victorian miners who used explosives to break through tonnes of shale to get to the precious metal within. There’s guided tours running throughout the day between March and November.
3. Dan Yr Ogof ShowCaves-If you aren’t quite ready to commit to the full caving experience the Dan yr Ogof Showcaves offers an amazing opportunity to explore caves and admire rock formations, as well as experiencing their dinosaur park!
4. Caving–Go caving with experienced activity providers
There’s an Easter feast of music, magic, balloon-modelling and the world-famous Quack Pack at The National Botanic Garden! There’s a feast of Easter fun on the menu at the National Botanic Garden of Wales with music, dancing, archery, bushcraft, tree-climbing, abseiling, magic and meerkats on the agenda. There are displays by the British Bird of Prey Centre, too, plus specialist historical talks and tours, the Spring Antiques Weekend plus the chance to see the Mediterranean plants in the Great Glasshouse in full bloom. 
The action starts on (Good) Friday March 30th and there will be events and activities on EVERY day of the Easter holidays. Visitors will also have the chance to use the Garden’s popular ‘boomerang’ ticket, which allows folk to revisit for free within seven days of their original entry – so, hang on to your tickets! Admission to the Garden is £11 (including Gift Aid) for adults and £5 for children five-to-16 years of age. Under 5s are free. Entry is FREE for Garden members and parking is free for all. More here.
We are all really pleased to see a favourite family show returning to the Easter holidays -bottle feeding the lambs! Everyone loves feeding the lambs and at Cantref you can cuddle up to the lamb and feed it all by yourself - a perfect photo opportunity for Mum and Dad! And that's not all! Theatr Brycheiniog is a great place to enjoy live music and shows for all ages this Easter! Come join Easter Bunny at Brecon Mountain Railway. Take part in our Easter Egg Hunt at Pontsticill Station, everybody will receive a little gift off Mr Bunny and a special extra gift for the finder of the Golden Egg. Trains run at 10.30am, 12.15pm, 2.00pm and 3.45pm on the Fri 30th, Sat 31st March and Sun 1st, Mon 2nd April. Booking in advance is advised.
