Stroll around Llangorse Lake - suitable for all the family.

Llangorse is surrounded by a patchwork of green hills, fields, meadows and hedgerows and is a truly beautiful spot and a lovely place to sail or paddle.  It is home to the largest natural lake in South Wales is a fine spot for sailing, wildlife-watching and waterside strolls with shimmering views. Hire a paddle boat and take to the water yourself.  There’s local history to explore, too at the Crannog near the northwest shore. • TERRAIN - grassy paths and a short tarmac section, suitable for families.

The route:

Travelling from Brecon, Llangorse Youth and Community Centre (signed Community Centre)

The route is marked by green ringed posts, and information boards are provided at various points along the way.  At Llangorse Youth and Community Centre there is a children's play area and also picnic tables.

A. Leaving the car park on foot at Llangorse Youth and Community Centre turn left to join the pavement and then left onto the road towards Llangorse Lake.

Take care along this short section of road before the road opens out to the common.  Continue past the Cafe and Shop and turn right at the display board by the footpath sign.

B. Walk across the Common and go over a narrow bridge.  Bear half left across the field to a  kissing gate.  In the next field, head slightly right to find a small gate in a club of tees.  Go straight across the next field passing two very ancient oak trees on your right.  After the small bridge, turn left to cross the field to another gate.  Straight across the next field will bring you to a fruthe gate - turn left after this gate to visit Llangasty Bird Hide overlooking Llangorse Lake

C. The Bird Hide, opened by HRH the Prince of Wales in 2012 is constructed from traditional materials and features a roof thatched with water reed from Wales.

From the Bird Hide head south to continue to Llangasty Village Hall (E) or go on to Llangasty Church (D).  To complete the walk retrace your steps back to Llangorse Youth and Community Centre (A).  Stopping for a drink and an ice-cream at Llangorse Cafe.
