Events in the Brecon Beacons in September.

You may be arranging a trip to the Brecon Beacons this September, there is plenty of fun things to see during your stay with us, here are a few upcoming events this month.  For the full event listing go our our website.

  • thumb_6453__auto_888a33250dc28a4a61be7be79320469aThe beer lovers paradise!  Take a tour of award-winning Welsh brewery Brecon Brewing whose Three Beacons was judged to be the Best pint of Bitter in Wales (WAles Festival 2014), followed by a mini-bus tour of three local real ale pubs boasting a rich selection of craft beers, accompanied by chief brewer Buster Grant.
    The tour will include explanation of the brewing process, ingredients and tastings of the beers on hand at the time.  Then you will be transported to a characterful pub for a tasty lunch (with a pint if you'd like), followed by two other visits to public houses before being returned to Brecon by late afternoon.

Ffestiva! - the festival celebrating world music and dance created and performed by artists in Wales - is back! This year it takes place over ‘a month of Sundays’ through September, with performances around the National Botanic Garden of Wales, all starting at 12 noon.

4C Alive and Kickin' Community Choir Westender’s “Singing Nuns” Dylan and Gwyn Belly Dancing, Bouncy Castle, Fun Dog Show, Duck Race and children's activities

Monmouthshire & Brecon are to hold their second Canalathon on Sunday 6th September!The 33 mile route will see teams of four canoe, cycle and walk/run the distance of the tranquil canal that passes through the stunningBrecon Beacons National Park.  Starting at Pontymoile Basin, teams will be expected to paddle their way through the first 5 miles of the course by canoe. On collecting bikes from Goytre Wharf, a 17 mile slug can commence as competitors breeze alongside the canal. The challenge will close with an 11 mile walk or run from Llangynidr to cross the finish line at Brecon Canal Basin.

  • Classic and vintage cars and motorcycles on display from 10.30am Classical music and vintage musical theatre on the steps of the Adelina Patti Pavilion between 12pm and 4pm with David Lewis Vaughan, Britton Ferry Silver Band will be playing.

thumb_6674__auto_888a33250dc28a4a61be7be79320469a4th and 8th of September - Bat walk at Dinefwr . Join our Ranger for a bat walk at Dinefwr, the only parkland National Nature Reserve in Wales.  Starts at 6.30pm – meet in carpark Costs – £7.00 an adult + £3.00 a child (no children under 5)

  •  Hay History Weekend - Agincourt 600 11th til 13th September

    A look at the Battle of Agincourt and associations in Hay on Wye area and with the Welsh longbowmen. More details to follow.

  •  Dinefwr Heritage Open Weekend 12th til 13th September

    12-13 September – Heritage Open Weekend. – Free entry for everyone! Get a taste of what Dinefwr has to offer for FREE. There’s loads to do and on the 12th September we’ll be hosting a Vintage machinery and Classic Car day.

  •  Talybont Canal Raft Race 12th September

    CANAL RAFT RACE: Saturday 12th September. We have lift off!!The very first Talybont Canal Raft Race is on and you could be part of it. This is going to be great fun and you can use the event to actively raise money for a charity of your choice too.

  •  Usk Show 12th September

    On the second Saturday in September, every year since 1844, Usk Farmers’ Club have held the Usk Show to celebrate the very best of Monmouthshire farming and rural life. Now in its 170thyear its popularity is second-to-none.

  •  BRECON BEAST 13th September
    If taking on some of the toughest, highest and most scenic tracks and trails found in the Brecon Beacons is your choice of fun, then the Brecon Beacons Beast is the mountain bike enduro for you. The Beast offers you a choice of a LONG and a SHORT routes.

      Why not check out one the country’s top food festivals this year. If you haven’t been       before you’ll be in for a real treat at the 2014 Abergavenny Food Festival which plays host to some of the brightest lights of the food world.

  • Llandovery Sheep Festival  26th til 27th September

    Llandovery Sheep Festival celebrates droving, sheep farming & the wool industry All weekend the town of Llandovery will be celebrating its farming routes and connection to the drovers trails of old.Highlights of the weekend will include the sheep dog trials, sheep shearing demonstrations.  There will be competitions and music throughout.

  •  Dark Sky Discovery Evening 26th September

    Join experts from Dark Sky Wales to learn about the night sky and enjoy the wonders of the Universe. During your 4 hour visit to the Brecon Beacons you will learn how to recognise the constellations, discover how to use binoculars and telescopes and take fantastic pictures of the night sky. You will begin your experience in the classroom where tutors from DSW will show you how to use star charts and smartphone apps and computer software to find astronomical objects. Once confident in finding your way around tutors will move on to equipment before taking you outside into the wonderful dark skies of the Brecon Beacons National Park to put those skills into practice if weather permits.

    Places are limited to x 20, to ensure a high level of learning and participation.  The evening will be held at a dark sky location within the Brecon Beacons National Park, with exact location confirmed when you book.  No equipment or prior knowledge is needed but both welcome!

  •  Lunar Eclipse 28th September

    During a total lunar eclipse, the Sun, Earth and Moon form a straight line. The Earth blocks any direct sunlight from reaching the Moon. The Sun is behind the Earth, so the Sun's light casts the Earth's shadow on the Moon. This shadow covers the entire Moon and causes a total lunar eclipse. .

    Price includes parking, soup and a roll. The event will run whatever the weather!

    Our stargazing events are very popular, so booking is essential.Adults: £8.00 Children: £6.00 (minimum age 8 years)
