Coming to the Gallery at Theatr Brycheiniog from Monday 22 – Saturday 27 September 2025, the Resilience exhibition brings the internationally celebrated Red Dress Embroidery Project to Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.
The Red Dress is an intricately embroidered silk gown created over 14 years and co-produced by nearly 400 people from 51 countries. Conceived and led by British artist Kirstie MacLeod between 2009 and 2023, the project has invited contributions from women around the world, many of whom are vulnerable or living in poverty. The result is a stunning piece made up of 87 panels, showcasing embroidery as a shared language of women across cultures.
Presented in collaboration with the threads Community Arts Project, the exhibition will also feature textile works exploring memory, feminism, and resilience, as well as confronting issues of violence against women through contemporary stitch and embroidery.
To celebrate the arrival of the Red Dress in Brecon, Theatr Brycheiniog is hosting a series of events and workshops from 15 – 27 September, including weaving, embroidery, stitching and children’s workshops, alongside talks, performances and the presentation of the Red Dress story by Kirstie MacLeod herself.
