Maurice Selden: Rally Photography 1972 - 2017
A 2 month photographic exhibition has opened at Theatr Brycheiniog celebrating the 45 year career of world renowned rally photographer Maurice Selden. Maurice covered a record-breaking 449 World Rally Championship rallies worldwide. The exhibition, which runs until the end of August, aims to capture the thrills, colour and atmosphere of this exciting sport.
Born in Llandybie, and after Art College courses in Graphics and Photography, Maurice started his career in 1972 as staff photographer for Motorsport and Motoring News magazines in London. He covered all kinds of motorsports from Formula One Grand Prix to sports cars to rallying before deciding to concentrate on the WRC. This led to a career spanning 45 years which involved travelling to events worldwide in all climates from tropical to arctic. Maurice went freelance in 1987.
As well as supplying images to many major car manufacturers, his work has
appeared in books and publications all over the world. To make the most of the gallery’s focus on rallying this summer the theatre has Nicky Grist, a British former rally co-driver talking on stage about his racing career on Friday, July 28th .
