Many people’s lives are touched by dementia and communities are now working together to remove the stigma attached to the condition.
Dementia Awareness Week in Brecon will be running from May 15 -21 and will involve a packed programme of events to help raise awareness and start a conversation about the condition put on by Dementia Friendly Brecon. Find the full programme of events here.
The week is run by Dementia Friendly Communities, a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers. One volunteer, Rhiannon Davies, said: "Starting in Brecon was like pushing against an open door. Our campaign has highlighted Brecon as being a very caring community already. The residents of Brecon and the whole of Powys should be very proud of this."
On Monday, May 16, there will be a session called Music and Memories at The Muse between 10:30am and 12pm.
Tuesday will be a day full of activities to choose from. In the morning there will be tea, chat and activities at MIND in Brecon, Ty Croeso in Ystradgynlais and Brecon’s St David’s House. Following that at 11am there will be a pre-school story-time session at Brecon Library.
Theatr Brycheiniog will be hosting a whole day of events through its Ageing Creatively workshops and activities that will run from 10am until 5pm. Find out more here.

On Friday there will be a coffee morning/advice and information event at the Guildhall. In the afternoon the Guildhall will also host the Brecon area Dementia Friendly Community AGM.
