Prize-winning veg on the menu this weekend at the National Botanic Garden 

Do you grow champion veg? Then why not enter one (or more) of the 37 classes in The National Vegetable Society’s Welsh Branch Championship being held in the National Botanic Garden on Saturday and Sunday, August 22-23.

Championship entry forms are available from show secretary Colin Lewis – contact him on lewiscolin@hotmail.co.uk  There are also available from our admissions staff in the Gatehouse.

But, even if you don’t know your asparagus from your elbow or don’t grow world beating beet, they will be plenty to feast your eyes on at this special event – from long, pointed carrots and a dish of three parsnips to table marrows and Best Legume Collection.

If the expert classes are too daunting, there are novice and junior classes alongside the national championships and special trophies.

And, if the children need something to do, they can enter our Veg Olympics where the leek javelin competition and the ‘Putting the Swede’ showdown are always hotly contested.

The Garden is open from 10am to 6pm with last entry at 5pm.

Admission to the Garden is £9.75 (including Gift Aid) for adults and £4.95 for children over five.  Entry is FREE for Garden members and parking is free for all.
