Mend It May at Gwernyfed Walled Garden

As part of #MendItMay, a national celebration of repair, reuse and sustainability, Gwernyfed Walled Garden near Brecon is hosting a special Mend It Workshop on 17 May 2025 with textiles expert Ginny Le Bailey. This friendly, hands-on session invites participants to bring along cherished items of clothing or linen that need a little care, learning how to extend their life with simple, thoughtful mending techniques.

Workshop Details

From 11am to 2pm, Ginny will guide participants through a range of repair methods, helping you give new life to well-loved garments. All equipment and mending materials are provided, though you are welcome to bring any additional fabrics you would like to incorporate.

  • Course cost: £30

  • Optional lunch and dessert: £15

  • Tea and coffee provided

Why Mend It May?

Mend It May is part of the wider Sustainable Fashion Week movement, which encourages people to rethink their relationship with clothing by focusing on repair, reuse and community. By learning to mend, we not only reduce waste but also celebrate the stories and memories held in the clothes we wear.

Gwernyfed Walled Garden is a beautifully restored historic garden set within the Brecon countryside. Managed with care and sustainability at its heart, the garden produces seasonal fruit, vegetables and flowers, and is home to a welcoming café known for its homemade cakes and use of garden-grown produce.
