Llandeilo Festival’s Artistic Director has just announced that one of Britain’s most distinguished Lieder singers, the baritone Roderick Williams, will be gracing this year’s Festival with his formidable presence. This year will see the Festival celebrate its 15th anniversary, and the appearance of a singer who has been attracting such critical acclaim, and who is making two separate appearances in this year’s BBC Promenade Concerts in London’s Royal Albert Hall will be a further feather in the Festival’s cap. Indeed, it will continue its enviable record of attracting leading Proms artists to this small corner of rural Wales, with no less than four who have performed in Llandeilo (including Britain’s leading jazz trumpeter, Guy Barker, and clarinet virtuoso, Michael Collins) appearing in the Proms this season.
It’s the gardening event of the year – and it’s coming back to the National Botanic Garden of Wales.
On Sunday 19th July 2015, BBC Radio 4′s Gardeners’ Question Time is bringing its annual Summer Garden Party to the National Botanic Garden of Wales for a second year. The GQT Summer Garden Party is a unique opportunity to enjoy two recordings of the BBC’s flagship gardening radio programme.
You’ll meet the GQT team, be able to put your questions to them in person and there will be demonstrations and horticultural happenings all over the Garden plus music, food and activities for all the family.
The party will feature the pick of the crop of gardening gurus, including Bob Flowerdew, Bunny Guinness, Chris Beardshaw, Pippa Greenwood, Terry Walton, Matthew Biggs, James Wong, Toby Buckland, Anne Swithinbank, Christine Walkden and GQT chairmen Eric Robson and Peter Gibbs.
So come along, meet the team and get your gardening problems solved once and for all!
The role of the modern Royal Welsh Show is a rounded one. As well as its principal function of showcasing the cream of Welsh livestock and the high quality food and drink produced in Wales, it encompasses the wider spectrum of farming and rural life and successfully bridges the gap between town and country.
It provides something to interest everyone through its kaleidoscopic range of activities including forestry, horticulture, crafts, countryside sports, Sports Village and a 12 hour programme of exciting entertainment that continues throughout each of the four days of the
event.
Over the years the nine-day free music festival has become THE big event for Monmouth, South Wales – and one of Europe’s biggest and best free music festivals, attracting visitors from all over the world. It’s a celebration of the town and its community, and a chance to see local and national musicians from rock, classical, pop, folk, jazz, ska, punk, world music and beyond. Have you ever wondered where the expression “once in a blue moon” comes from? A blue moon happens when there is a second full moon within a calendar month, and this rare event is next happening on July 31st 2015 and we are holding a unique event to celebrate it!
Join us for a once in a blue moon experience, and walk up Pen y fan, the highest peak of the Brecon Beacons to watch the sun set and the moon rise.
With registration from 8.30pm at Pont ar Daf (Grid ref 988199), walkers can start the ascent between 9 and 9.30pm. The route will be marked and manned by the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team, and after some singing in true Welsh style on the summit, walkers can return to the car park where there will be refreshments and a Blue Moon certificate for all participants.
With a registration fee of only £15 per person (FREE entry for under 12’s) this is a rare opportunity not to be missed.
