Visit one of our many Castles
Wales is home to some of Europe's finest surviving medieval castles. Here in the Brecon Beacons, we have our fair share. Perhaps the most dreamy and dramatic of all are the weathered remains of Carreg Cennen Castle, perched high up on a limestone crag.
Magnificent ruins such as those at Brecon, Crickhowell, Llandovery and Tretower bear witness to a turbulent past, while grand mansions such as Cyfarthfa Castle, Newton House at Dinefwr and Tretower Court remind us that castles were once mighty symbols of power and wealth.

The stunning cathedral is free entry if you fancy a stroll around one of Brecon town’s highlights.
Parks and Gardens
Vaughan Gardens-Take a break from the Talybont Valley walk in a peaceful garden sown with fragrant herbs.
Linda Vista Gardens, home to rare orchids and with stunning views to the Blorenge, is a great place to stop and enjoy the summer days.
Craig Y Nos Country Park- walk around a 40-acre Victorian garden with shady woodlands, meadows, ponds, lazy lawns and rushing rivers. (There is a small car parking fee)
Dinefwr Park-Take a stroll around a medieval deer park at Dinefwr Dinefwr boasts a vast and diverse range of habitats and environment. From flower rich hay meadows to dense woodland, wide open spaces to bog woods and wet meadows. Each providing vital habitats for a range of species and playing a crucial role in Britain’s biodiversity.
Cyfarthfa Park-Don’t forget to pack your spare clothes on a visit to the splash pad at Cyfarthfa Park in Merthyr. Sit back and relax as you watch the children jumping their way through the jets of water. Finish the trip off with a ride on the park’s miniature railway. Enjoy some natural wonders
Llangorse Lake- Cool off by paying a visit to the largest natural lake in Wales. Try a pedalo or even just grab an ice-cream and watch the ducks float by.
Making a splash at Talybont waterfalls is a summer must, or a relaxing cycle along the canal. End the evening at one of the great beer gardens while watching the sunset.
Take a Walk

Visit a Gallery
The Lion Street Gallery- Recently rated as one of the best galleries in Wales by the Culture Trip website, only 50 yards from the clocktower in the famous book town of Hay- on- Wye There are regular shows throughout the year, showcasing both established Welsh artists, as well as up and coming young talent. They are also part of the Arts Council of Wales 0% Collectorplan scheme, all to help make investing in art easier to do.

Erwood Station Gallery is the sister gallery to the Lion Street Gallery in Hay on Wye. It shows the very best in contemporary craft, paintings and sculpture set within a station and 3 carriages! Erwood Station Gallery is in a well known beauty spot alongside the River Wye, ideal for walkers and bird watchers (there is a bird hide in the renovated signal box which is looked after by Radnorshire Wildlife Trust) and there is even an engine as well. There is also a tea room in the station.
Stargaze
For the greatest free show on earth, all you have to do is look up at the night sky. The inky-black skies of the Brecon Beacons are perfect for star-spotting – so much so, it’s now Wales’ first and only the fifth destination in the world to be granted the status of an international dark sky reserve.
Go Underground
Big Pit
With free entry, Big Pit is a must-see for South Wales. With facilities to educate and entertain all ages, Big Pit is an exciting and informative day out. The Museum is set in a unique industrial landscape, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000!
Dan Yr Ogof Showcaves
A great day out in any weather, Dan-yr-Ogof has impressive caves to explore, a museum, a shire horse centre and an adventure playground.
