Fungi Town: A Weekend of Funghi Fun at Hay Castle

By j.bell on 27/09/2025

3–5 October 2025, Hay-on-Wye

Hay Castle will host Fungi Town, a free, family-friendly festival celebrating the weird and wonderful world of fungi. Taking place across the weekend of UK Fungus Day (3–5 October), the event promises a packed programme of talks, workshops, films, exhibitions, feasts and art, all dedicated to mushrooms, lichens, moulds and more .

This is the first event of its kind in the UK — a fungal takeover of Hay-on-Wye. As well as activities in the beautifully restored Hay Castle, shops and venues across the town will join in, creating a playful community-led celebration of nature’s most fascinating kingdom. Visitors can expect insights from experts, creativity from artists, and delicious inspiration from local producers.

As members of Brecon Beacons Tourism know, events like Fungi Town benefit from wider promotion across Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), helping them reach new audiences and encourage visitors to explore more of what our region offers.
