Everyone's gone stargazing mad in the Brecon Beacons!

These long crisp evenings of clear skies are perfect for some winter stargazing, just have a look at all the events that are happening in the next few weeks! Grab your warmest jumper, a rug and a flask of hot chocolate and brave the chill - believe us it's worth it.

30th November - Stargazing evening with Good Day Out

Join this Good Day Out experience night to learn how to recognise familiar constellations, correctly use binoculars to look for deep sky objects and use telescopes to take pictures of the night sky. Proceeds from the evening go towards Dark Sky Wales' programme of astronomy and robotic workshops for children. £55 per person.

Stay in: The Granary in the Park a newly converted barn situated at the foot of the Black Mountains, definitely a home from home.

7th and 8th December - Crai Star Marathon

The Dark Sky Discovery Site is putting on two whole days dedicated to the stars. The packed programme includes talks from prestigious lecturers, walks around the Geopark, film showings and telescope showrooms from SCS Astro. To top off a great weekend there will be beer tasting at Brecon Brewing or hearty dinners at The Tanners Arms.  

Stay in: Aberhyddnant Farm Cottages The cottages are ideal for stargazing in the darkest part of the Beacons away from urban glare (guides and equipment provided).

13th December - Stargazing at the National Park Visitor Centre

Martin Griffiths, senior lecturer in astronomy at the University of South Wales will give a presentation on the Christmas Star. Martin’s wonderful description of the mystery surrounding this well know astronomical event will be truly fascinating. Participants will also have the chance to use the telescopes and binoculars with invaluable guidance from the experts. Tickets are £10 which includes a jacket potato and a hot drink.

Stay in: Stargazer Retreat is a perfect little bolt hole for two and (true to its name) it's perfect for stargazing with its own observatory and guests are welcome to use the telescope.
