The Crickhowell Music Festival starts this weekend and runs from 30th April to 14th May.

This year's festival explores music inspired by the Book of Revelation. Enjoy a sequence of masterpieces spanning medieval to modern times that deals with our deepest hopes and fears, including a mass for the prevention of volcanic eruptions!

Outstanding vocal soloists will join the Crickhowell Choral Society and there will be a talented orchestra in support.

"You ain’t seen (or heard) nothin’ yet! A fitting climax to the Crickhowell Music Festival comes in a rare performance of Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, an extraordinary work which vividly captures both the agony and ecstasy of its subject.

The concert will be held on Thursday 14th May at 7.30pm in St Edmund’s Church. A liaison with Arts Alive will decorate the church with banners, flags and associated visual/written work relating to the theme of Signs and Wonders inspired by the book of Revelation.

All three local schools will participate in an afternoon music workshop with the Huw Watkins ensemble before their performance. The young people will experience the vivid sounds of the piece and peruse the artwork, both of which will form the stimulus for further projects in the classroom. What a revelation it will be!

Tickets are available from Webbs and Abergavenny Music.

Don’t miss out on an inspirational weekend of wonderful music.
