Britain is celebrating its best harvest since 2006 according to reports, so head to the hills and see what you can find in the forests. In particular we are seeing an abundance of wild blackberries, mushrooms and crab apples, so why not perfect your crumble ahead of the Autumn months?
2. Llandovery Sheep Festival 28th & 29th September
From traditional farmer’s markets selling delicious jams, cakes and biscuits, to sheep shearing demonstrations, competitions and even live male voice choir concerts, this festival celebrates the beauty of rural life in one fun weekend where everyone is invited.
3. Stargazing with Good Day Out
It won’t be long before those balmy summer nights out are replaced for chilly evenings in, so whatever you do you must make the most of the remaining mild evenings by stargazing. Good Day Out’s Night Sky Observing activity teaches participants all about the astronomers trade, a lesson in the constellations and even the chance to photograph the amazing views with high-tech telescopes.
4. The Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal
After the last few months we have been taking advantage of the soaring temperatures by strolling, cycling or running along the canal but get out there one last time before the inevitable September showers begin.
5. Abergavenny Food Festival - 21st & 22nd September
A great event for all you foodies and your families, over 200 speciality food and drink producers flock to this exciting festival which feature masterclasses, tutored tastings and food talks, as well as children’s activities. The Gliffaes Hotel’s head chef Karl Cheetham will be giving his annual demonstration, a great way to learn the tricks of the trade first hand from a talented expert.
