About:
Nestled beneath ancient sycamores in the peaceful Cathedral Close, The Hours Café & Bookshop operates from three interlinked historic barns just up the hill from Brecon town centre. Open since its relocation in May 2022, it offers a calm, characterful space serving artisan Welsh food and drinks alongside a hand-picked range of books and gifts

What they offer:

  • Café delights: artisan coffees, homemade savouries (Pilgrims’ Repast) and sweet treats including traditional Welsh rarebit, enjoyed inside or in their dog-friendly outdoor space

  • Independent bookshop: a thoughtfully curated selection of around 1,000 titles—fiction, art, poetry, walking guides—praised by The Guardian as “like this in dreams”

  • Cultural hub: free literary events, author evenings, workshop spaces, and a venue for the Brecon Women’s Festival and other local creative gatherings

  • Awards & recognition: honoured as “Best Café in the National Park” by Brecon Beacons Tourism, and featured in the June 2025 edition of taste.blas magazine’s Spotlight on Brecon

Opening Hours:
Wednesday–Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm; Sunday, 10 am – 3 pm; closed Mon–Tue

Why we love it:
A perfect “still-point” for generations—whether sipping a cappuccino or browsing books, The Hours offers warmth, creativity, and connection in a beautiful, historic setting. It’s where community, calm, and culture meet in the heart of Brecon. (Try the Basque Cheesecake...)
