Brecon Town Council has provided the town with a Christmas tree for many years, along with the Christmas lights which are always switched on at the end of November but this year they are pulling out all the stops to put on 'Brecon With Bells On', a Christmas extravaganza on Saturday 26 November which will appeal to local families and visitors to the town - with activities taking place from 10am - 8pm -the full programme can be be found below.

Have a read of our Brecon Town Guide here - to find out more about the town.

In the afternoon traditional fairground activities will bring an old fashioned Christmas atmosphere to the town with a coconut shy, a children's carousel, crazy golf and more. These will be free for children to enjoy.

Visitors will also be invited to find golden cats in shop windows throughout the town in a treasure hunt organised by Jermin Productions who are putting on the pantomime, Dick Whittington, at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon, in December and January.

There will, of course, be a visit from Father Christmas who has been offered the use of the mayor's parlour at the Guildhall where he will meet children (from 4pm) and listen to their Christmas wishes.

For music lovers, there are performances from local choirs, members of the cast from Jermin's Dick Whittington, a busking competition with a cash prize and performances by cast members of Peter Pan which is produced by the Westenders and staged at Theatr Brycheiniog in January. DJ and MC Mark Weller will be in attendance and he will make sure that the community stage on the Bulwark will have something to offer throughout the day.

The Mayor of Brecon, Councillor Rose Evans will be judging the Busking Competition in Bethel Square and she will also be at the Guildhall collecting for this year's mayor's charities.

Brecon with Bells On will reach its crescent do at 7pm when Paralympic table tennis gold medallist Rob Davies arrives to switch the lights on.

Several shops will be staying open for late night shopping, possibly a glass of mulled wine and a hot minced pie.
